Samsung to double mobile devices powered by Google's Gemini to 800 mln units this year

Samsung aims to double Gemini AI-enabled devices to 800 million in 2026, expanding AI across products to strengthen its position against Apple and Chinese rivals.

  • This year, Samsung Electronics plans to double the number of mobile devices with Google’s Gemini to 400 million, T M Roh said.
  • Samsung seeks to reclaim market ground from Apple and fend off Chinese rivals such as Huawei by offering integrated AI services across products, Roh said, with AI adoption expected to accelerate after Galaxy AI awareness rose to 30% last year.
  • Google launched Gemini 3 in November, and Roh said Samsung will apply AI to all products as consumers increasingly use generative editing, translation and summary tools on phones.
  • A global memory chip shortage is boosting Samsung's semiconductor business but squeezing smartphone business margins, and T M Roh did not rule out raising prices as market researchers IDC and Counterpoint predict the market will shrink next year.
  • Foldable phone adoption has grown slower than expected due to engineering and app challenges, but Roh expects the foldable phones market to go mainstream in the next two or three years after Samsung led last year and Apple enters this year.
