Sam Wood’s ‘party lifestyle’ exposed in second bail bid
His lawyers proposed a $1 million surety and strict reporting conditions, but Justice Patrick McCafferty said the alleged conduct posed an unacceptable risk.
On Friday, the Brisbane Supreme Court denied a second bail application for former Bachelor Australia star Sam Wood, who faces domestic violence charges including strangulation. Justice Patrick McCafferty ruled the 46-year-old remains an unacceptable risk to the safety of others.
Wood was arrested on October 3 after his 21-year-old stepdaughter, Eve Markoski-Wood, called police alleging he harmed her mother at a luxury Noosa apartment. Prosecutors charged him with assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting.
Lawyer Paula Morreau KC revealed the couple is expected to separate. The court heard allegations of Wood's 'party lifestyle,' drug and alcohol use, and increasingly frequent confrontations with his wife, Snezana Wood.
Morreau proposed a $1 million surety and Wood relocating to Tasmania to live with his father, Andrew Wood. Justice McCafferty rejected these conditions, finding they could not sufficiently reduce the risk to witnesses or public safety.
Wood will remain at Wolston Correctional Centre, potentially facing a lengthy period on remand before trial. Snezana has stopped wearing her wedding ring, and the couple's $6 million Brighton mansion has been listed for sale.
