S&P/TSX composite closes higher as oil prices rise, U.S. markets end lower
Canada's main stock index, the TSX, recovered from earlier losses to close in positive territory on Sept 14, gaining 5.04 points to finish at 35,702.53.
Markets in New York closed lower on Sept 14 as artificial-intelligence stocks slid, with the Dow Jones industrial average falling 152.09 points to 52,421.20.
Supporting the TSX, The October crude oil contract rose US$1.34 to US$101.39 per barrel, while The December gold contract dropped US$57.00 to US$4,351.90 an ounce and CADUSD traded at 71.90 cents.
Nasdaq also declined alongside the Dow Jones, falling 146.62 points to 26,186.41 as investors reacted to weakness in New York's technology sector.
Divergence between Canada energy-linked stocks and U.S. technology shares marked Sept 14 trading, as Electronic displays at the New York Stock Exchange underscored sector-specific volatility throughout the day.
