S&P Global Announces Agreement to Acquire OpenZeppelin

The deal expands S&P Global’s digital-asset reach as OpenZeppelin’s library has supported more than $37 trillion in transferred value, the companies said.

  • On Thursday, S&P Global announced an agreement to acquire OpenZeppelin, the security standard for onchain finance, in a move to expand its digital assets capabilities.
  • Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin provides onchain security assessments and an open-source smart contract library trusted by many of the largest stablecoins and tokenized funds globally.
  • Contracts built with the library have moved over $37 trillion in value; the firm has conducted more than 900 security engagements, surfacing over 10,000 vulnerabilities, S&P said.
  • Demian Brener, CEO of OpenZeppelin, will continue leading the business as a separate unit, reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President, S&P Global Ratings.
  • The acquisition complements S&P Global's risk assessment capabilities in digital asset markets. "Our digital assets strategy centers on bringing trusted data, benchmarks and transparent risk assessment to markets as they move onchain," said Le Pallec.
