Russian drones kill two people near Ukraine's Kharkiv overnight, governor says
Regional officials said the strike damaged homes, following a wave of 134 drone attacks that killed five people across Ukraine, according to government data.
- On Friday, Ukrainian drones struck three Russian oil refineries and one gas-chemical complex, including the Rosneft-owned Novokuybyshevsk refinery in Samara. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak warned the strikes could reduce diesel exports, ending a two-week lull in refinery attacks.
- The attacks resumed following the collapse of an informal two-week pause tied to President Donald Trump's October 11 announcement of an "energy ceasefire." President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed he never agreed to the arrangement and criticized Russia's continued bombardment of Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
- Novak cautioned that the strikes "could certainly lead to a reduction in supply volumes," potentially impacting global markets. The Novokuybyshevsk facility processes nearly 8.8 million metric tonnes of crude oil annually and produces aviation fuel for Russian military operations.
- Retaliatory Russian strikes on Dnipro killed at least 14 people at a railway station and left approximately 280,000 families without power on Friday. Emergency crews worked through the night to restore critical infrastructure across the region.
- The United Nations warned that Russia's systematic attacks on Ukraine's energy grid may constitute crimes against humanity as winter approaches. With both sides deeply divided over enforcement terms, the fragile energy ceasefire has effectively collapsed, signaling continued escalation.
