Mass Effect 5 Trailer Leaked Online After BioWare's Studio Shutdown
IGN verified the internal trailer after AI suspicions, while about 50 BioWare developers lost their jobs in EA layoffs.
- An internal trailer for the cancelled Mass Effect Universe appeared online recently, verified by IGN and Bloomberg's Jason Schrier despite initial suspicions it was an AI-generated fake.
- The leak follows the recent closure of BioWare, where 50 developers working on the project lost their jobs as part of 400 total EA layoffs occurring months after Saudi Arabia's $55bn leveraged buyout.
- Footage reveals a new protagonist navigating the galaxy with a crew including a Krogan and Liara, aiming for "a level of autonomy and choice that no other game has" like Baldur's Gate 3 and The Witcher.
- Reddit user Harrywilko wrote, "A spy thriller is such a cool concept for a re-entry to the series," while user TerraxFormer added, "Man, I'm just so sad and angry."
- The job cuts also hit studios including Respawn, Maxis, Full Circle, and Motive; while experts anticipated cuts given EA's new debt obligations, the news drew messages of sympathy from across the industry.
