Pioneering surgeon Sir Roy Calne who carried out Europe's first liver transplant dies
Roy Calne, a pioneer of organ transplantation, died at the age of 93. He performed Europe's first liver transplant in 1968.
Calne introduced drugs to prevent organ rejection, leading to widespread organ grafting. He received several accolades for his work, including a Pride of Britain award.
Calne was also an accomplished artist, known for painting portraits of his patients and colleagues.
