The German rocket company plans research flights with its SR75 vehicle after passing a regulatory review and says it is ready for launch as soon as conditions allow.
- On Thursday, German rocket company HyImpulse secured its launch operator licence from the Civil Aviation Authority, clearing regulatory hurdles to conduct flights from SaxaVord Spaceport on Unst.
- After passing a rigorous regulatory review of its systems and safety procedures, HyImpulse plans to launch its SR75 suborbital vehicle in spring 2027 from Shetland to support research projects.
- Christian Schmierer, HyImpulse chief executive and co-founder, stated "With the operator licence secured, the most important regulatory milestone has been achieved," confirming technical readiness for launch.
- Sue Kee, head of space applications at the CAA, said momentum was continuing to build towards vertical launches from the UK, while SaxaVord Spaceport chief executive Scott Hammond called the approval excellent news.
- HyImpulse continues developing its orbital rocket SL1 to carry satellites into orbit from SaxaVord in the future, with the SR75 research mission designed to pave the way for the larger vehicle.
