Robinson, Wilder combine for 255 yards rushing and 3 scores to lead Southern Miss over UL Monroe
Steven Robinson and Jamarice Wilder each topped 100 rushing yards as Southern Miss earned its second straight win and improved to 3-5.
Southern Miss defeated Louisiana-Monroe 35-21 on Saturday in Monroe, with running backs Steven Robinson and Jamarice Wilder each rushing for more than 100 yards and combining for three touchdowns.
Since a loss at Troy a few weeks ago, Joe Bolden's defense has improved significantly, setting the tone early in Monroe by recovering a fumble on the first drive and forcing a turnover on downs to end the game.
Quarterback Landry Lyddy completed 15 of 30 passes for 130 yards and one 21-yard touchdown to Grant Page, while the Golden Eagles won the turnover battle 2-0 to overcome a five-game skid.
Jamarice Wilder scored a 32-yard touchdown run with 2:18 remaining to push the lead to 35-21, finishing with 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns; this marks his second straight game-winning late-game score.
The Golden Eagles host James Madison at The Rock on Nov. 5 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN2, giving the team five days to prepare for one of the Sun Belt Conference's top programs.
