Rivers Police Dismiss Four Officers over Death of Uniport Graduate

- The Rivers State Police Command dismissed four officers on Wednesday for their involvement in the killing of University of Port Harcourt graduate Anthony Obodo, who was shot dead last Thursday near Agip Junction, Port Harcourt.
- Police investigations established that a patrol team chased Obodo after he allegedly refused to stop his vehicle; during the pursuit, Corporal Alfred Louis allegedly opened fire at the car, resulting in his death.
- Rivers State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju stated "the command would not shield any personnel found to have acted outside the law," confirming officers remain detained and will face murder charges.
- Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the killing, describing it as a "reckless resort of the police to deadly force," and urged authorities to ensure an independent investigation into the alleged human rights violation.
- The organization warned that lack of accountability breeds impunity and urged public trials for culpable officers, while Police pledged professionalism and respect for human rights as disciplinary proceedings continue.
