In an upsurge of violence during the final stretch for Sunday's presidential elections, at least 12 soldiers were injured on Wednesday following an explosive attack allegedly by the guerrilla National Liberation Army against an infantry battalion in northern Colombia, the Army reported.

The Army has issued a statement in which it categorically rejects this "terrorist act" against an infantry battalion deployed in the aforementioned town of La Guajira, located in one of the northernmost parts of the Colombian Caribbean, which "threats the integrity of the civilian population."
