Saskatchewan Roughriders Will Honour Crash Victim Bhishma Rajyaguru Before Game
The club will also work with Rajyaguru’s family as an online fundraiser has raised about $80,000 for repatriation and support, organizers said.
- The Saskatchewan Roughriders will honor Bhishma Rajyaguru before Thursday's game against the Edmonton Elks, planning a pre-game ceremony to memorialize the 22-year-old who died in a fatal collision last Saturday.
- Rajyaguru died Saturday night in a vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Lumsden, northwest of Regina, when his car struck a vehicle driven by Roughriders linebacker and team captain Jayden Dalke.
- The RCMP reported Monday that Dalke, 30, was driving on the wrong side of the highway while impaired by alcohol and cannabis; his SUV also left a gas station with unpaid fuel before the collision.
- General manager Jeremy O'Day confirmed the team will hold a tribute for Dalke before Thursday's game, with players intending to wear the linebacker's initials on their helmets against the Elks.
- Friend Tonish Patel said an online fundraiser has collected about $80,000 to cover repatriating Rajyaguru's body to India, though the process remains pending until RCMP autopsies and toxicology tests are completed.
