Retired M’s Broadcaster Rick Rizzs on the Mic at Auburn Mountainview
The retired Mariners broadcaster added his own flair to student announcements and gave senior Christie Bui-Hoang a $5,000 college scholarship.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, former Seattle Mariners announcer Rick Rizzs visited Auburn Mountainview High School to read morning announcements during the school's 30-minute Lion Time period.
Beyond reading announcements, Rizzs presented senior Christie Bui-Hoang with a $5,000 scholarship, joined by Trent Henderson to award the Toys for Kids Hendu Education Scholarship honoring Dave Henderson.
Rizzs brought broadcasting flair to the high school, ad-libbing details about homecoming spirit week and shouting "Bonjour Lions!" for French Club, drawing a crowd of teachers to the office.
Awarded for her essay detailing tax assistance work for families, Bui-Hoang plans to continue her education at the University of Washington Foster School of Business.
This school visit highlights Rizzs' plan to be "retired, not expired" following his 41-year career in baseball; he officially retired from the Mariners on Sunday, Sept. 27.
