Rescue crews save six in water on busy Christmas Day

  • On Thursday, Victoria Police and rescue crews saved six people across separate incidents in Port Phillip Bay, the Bass Coast and Paynesville.

  • Paramedics said the pair showed mild hypothermia but did not require hospitalisation, and the family of the rescued pair thanked rescuers on Boxing Day.
  • Police and volunteer crews coordinated using police helicopters, water police boats, the Queenscliff volunteer coastguard, and rescue helicopters, with Acting Senior Sergeant Michael Quirk saying, `The search area was quite large given the time frames and the distance someone could move in those sorts of conditions`.
