Republican groups and their allies raised more than $2.2 billion against the 1.3 billion Democrats. However, Democratic candidates got more direct funding and conquered both chambers, in a scenario reminiscent of Kamala Harris’s economic advantage over Donald Trump in 2024.
Campaigns ahead of the US congressional elections cost a third more money than four years ago. This year they broke records. According to estimates, donors invested $11.9 billion, or almost 260 billion crowns. The most generous was businessman Elon Musk, who sent almost 10 billion crowns to Republicans. But even he could not prevent defeat, including the loss of the senatorial seat in Texas, which Republicans had held for 33 years.
But the polls are on the Democratic side.
Republicans have raised more than $2.2 billion to about $1.3 billion for Democrats at the party organization level for the US midterm elections, while at the individual candidate level, Democrats are ahead with $2.3 billion to $1.6 billion. At the same time, total election spending is estimated to reach a historic high of $11.9 billion, with Elon Musk having contributed $474 million to Republican candidates and organizations.
