Tigers Dismiss Triple-A Toledo Manager Gabe Alvarez
Mike Hessman will serve as interim manager after the Tigers said Alvarez was terminated for a violation of club policy.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers terminated the contract of Toledo Mud Hens manager Gabe Alvarez, citing a "violation of club policy" in an official statement.
Alvarez, 52, was in his second season managing the Mud Hens, who held a 17-16 record through Monday and sat tied for fourth place in the International League West.
Initially hired to manage the Double-A Erie Seawolves in 2022, Alvarez led the team to back-to-back Eastern League titles before receiving promotion to Triple-A ahead of the 2025 season.
Mike Hessman, who holds the all-time minor league record with 433 home runs, will serve as interim manager for Toledo.
The organization stated they will have no further comment on the decision, ending the tenure of a manager previously viewed as a candidate for the major league staff.
