Report: In June, nearly 50% of press releases were written with AI
Pangram Labs said AI-generated text appeared in 34% of PR Newswire releases over the last 12 months, with 25% of flagged items fully AI-written.
Across the industry, 48% of press releases on Newswire contained AI-generated text in June 2026, marking a dramatic acceleration in adoption within corporate communications.
Pangram Labs analyzed 178,672 English press releases published between Aug 2025 and July 2026, finding that weekly AI-generated share doubled in the period.
Advertising recorded the highest overall AI-generated content share at 64%, while Finance maintained sub 5% rates of fully AI-authored press releases.
AI-Authored press releases are becoming longer, reaching a median of 601 words in July 2026, exceeding fully human-written releases at 521 words.
Newswire sells an AI-generated writing tool and states it "does not publicly tag press releases to indicate they were created using AI," despite growing fatigue around LLM-isms.
