Remains of 1 adult found in burned-out Brampton home, as search continues for 2 unaccounted for occupants
Two adults died, four others including a child were critically injured, and three remain missing as investigators search a Brampton home with known safety violations.
- During a Friday update, Const. Tyler Bell, Peel Regional Police, said workers found what are believed to be the remains of an adult at 12 Banas Way, halting demolition for the coroner's attendance.
- Early Thursday, firefighters responded just after 2:30 a.m. to a fire that spread to the roof and caused partial collapse, making the house unsafe and requiring excavation crews.
- Peel Regional Police said 11 people were associated with the residence: nine members of a multi‑generational family and two secondary basement unit occupants; two were confirmed dead, four hospitalized, and three unaccounted for, including a five‑year‑old child.
- Multiple neighbouring homes were evacuated and some adjacent properties were damaged, though residents were uninjured, while Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said the absentee landlord had compliance issues and the property was not licensed for multiple tenants.
- Chief Andy Glynn, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, said the service will review licences for multi-unit residences and ensure compliance, while officials await further updates from the Office of the Fire Marshal.
