Redwood Falls to host 2027 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Opener
The 15th annual event will showcase pheasant hunting and outdoor recreation as Redwood Falls prepares to welcome visitors in 2027.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced Monday that Redwood Falls will host the 2027 Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Opener, revealing the selection at this year's event held last weekend in Northfield.
The Redwood Falls Chamber applied to host the event on behalf of the community, securing selection through a process evaluating available hunting land, tourism opportunities, and community support.
This 15th annual event will showcase the "beautiful Minnesota River Valley," according to Anne Johnson, executive director of Redwood Area Chamber and Tourism, focusing on outdoor recreation and local businesses.
Scheduled for Oct. 8-9, 2027, the event aims to spotlight the region's resources and community. Johnson said organizers "can't wait to welcome Minnesota to Redwood Falls."
The annual tradition began in 2011 when Montevideo hosted former Governor Mark Dayton for the inaugural opener; Montevideo also hosted the event again in 2016.
