King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were present on the Amstel during the traditional Liberation Concert on May 5. Not overly exuberant, but dressed quite simply, they arrived to mark the conclusion of Liberation Day. Máxima showed her best side and swayed along to the music.
The Netherlands celebrated 81 years of freedom yesterday with liberation festivals and other festivities throughout the country. Artists flew by helicopter from stage to stage, the bonfire was carried by runners from Wageningen to Vlissingen, and at 5:05 PM, everyone at the festivals observed five minutes of silence to celebrate the value of freedom. Just before Roxeanne Hazes (33) was due to perform at the May 5 concert in Amsterdam, 'everything' went wrong, according to her own account. However, TV viewers didn't notice any of this, the singer said afterwards on 'Shownieuws'.
