Ravens Set to Give Joe Fagnano His First Career Start at QB with Jackson and Huntley Injured
On Tuesday, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter officially announced undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as the starter for Thursday's primetime game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, following major injuries to Baltimore's top two quarterbacks.
The lineup change follows Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, where 2-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury requiring surgery and Tyler Huntley sustained a toe injury.
Despite dealing with an ankle injury sustained during his NFL debut, Fagnano practiced Tuesday while wearing a brace; the 25-year-old rookie is the second undrafted quarterback to start for the Ravens in their 32-year history.
Baltimore added depth by signing former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kedon Slovis to the 53-man roster off the Green Bay Packers practice squad, with Austin Reed also joining the practice squad.
Facing a short week, Fagnano said, "Quick turnaround going from Sunday to Thursday, but about how you expect," while acknowledging his appreciation for Jackson and Huntley since joining the organization.
