Carrick Admits Manchester United Must 'Perform Better' After Humiliating Defeat to AC Milan
Carrick said the squad must improve after a 4-2 loss, as United finished pre-season with three wins, one draw and two defeats.
On Saturday, Manchester United lost 4-2 to Milan in Wroclaw during their final pre-season match. Manager Michael Carrick admitted the performance fell below the required standard, despite United initially leading through Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu.
The defeat concluded a mixed pre-season campaign featuring three wins, one draw, and two losses. Carrick noted significant growth within the group and praised productive work completed on the training pitch throughout the summer.
Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans completed the full 90 minutes, while Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, and Lisandro Martinez made their first appearances of the summer. These minutes provided vital preparation ahead of the campaign.
United will return to Manchester to finalize preparations for their Premier League opener against Hull City next Saturday. Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko may be unavailable due to injuries, creating uncertainty for the trip to Hull.
With one week remaining before the 2026/27 season, Carrick remains adamant his side is ready to compete on four fronts. The manager expressed confidence the team remains in good spirits despite mounting injury concerns.
