Raptors Backup Point Guard Jamal Shead Providing Leadership on and Off the Court
Jamal Shead scored 13 points and added seven assists as Toronto beat Orlando 129-99, while his pregame dance routine lifted the bench.
The Toronto Raptors routed the Orlando Magic 129-99 on Wednesday, with guard Jamal Shead providing a spark off the bench by scoring 13 points, dishing seven assists, and grabbing two steals.
Inheriting a tradition from former teammate Garrett Temple, now an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, Shead led the pregame conga line. "Last year, when he wasn't available, the couple of games he missed, I filled in for him and did it," Shead said.
All-Star forward Scottie Barnes led all scorers with 28 points and credited Shead with shifting momentum. "He came in late in the second quarter, and I think the lead went from like around 10 to 17," Barnes said, noting Shead's defensive activity elevated the team.
Head coach Darko Rajakovic praised the guard's defensive impact, stating, "I thought that once Jamal Shead checked in, he changed the game." Rajakovic noted the team's improved hand activity and transition scoring following Shead's entry.
The Raptors and Magic will meet again at Scotiabank Arena on Friday for an NBA Cup game, with Toronto looking to maintain momentum from Wednesday's dominant performance.
