Nicholas Rossi, the US rapist who faked his death and fled to Scotland in bid to escape justice, dies
The Utah Department of Corrections said Rossi died of complications from an existing medical condition after he stopped treatment.
Nicholas Rossi, the 38-year-old American rapist, died on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in a local hospital after the Utah Department of Corrections said he "chose to remove himself from the care that was being provided."
After staging his 2020 death from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Rossi fled to Scotland, where investigators located him in a Glasgow hospital in December 2021 after staff recognized his distinctive tattoos from an Interpol wanted notice.
Following his 2024 extradition to America, Rossi was convicted of raping two women in Utah in 2008 and was serving 10 years to life with two sentences of between five years and life consecutively.
Richard Piatt, director of communications for the Utah Department of Corrections, confirmed the death at 20:32, stating, "This notification follows communication with Rossi's family and his victims."
Throughout extradition hearings at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Rossi maintained the "implausible" claim that he was an Irish-born orphan called Arthur Knight, often appearing in an electric wheelchair wearing an oxygen mask and suit.
