Jacob deGrom Can Still Be 2nd-Fastest to 2,000 Career Ks After Triceps Shortened
Jacob deGrom is expected back after leaving his last start with right triceps fatigue, and Texas also moved catcher Austin Wynns off the roster.
On Thursday, Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom returns to start the series finale against the Washington Nationals after recovering well from recent right triceps fatigue, manager Skip Schumaker confirmed.
The 38-year-old exited his August 13 start against the Los Angeles Angels after 2.0 innings due to right triceps fatigue; he also dealt with left hip and glute issues over the past month.
DeGrom enters with 1,998 career strikeouts, seeking to become the second-fastest pitcher to reach 2,000; he has recorded 147 strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings this season.
Manager Schumaker stated DeGrom faces no specific limitations, saying, "We'll watch it and just kind of talk to him in between innings to make sure everything's good."
DeGrom made only 35 starts from 2021-24 due to injuries, having missed most of 2023 and 2024 following elbow surgery with the Rangers.
