Yonatan Urich, a key suspect in the affair, was expected to be released from house arrest on Thursday, but police suddenly detained him on Wednesday after questioning, despite having informed his legal team that he was due to be released
Alongside the report on Channel 13 about the transfer of funds, Channel 12 reported that the former Mossad officer who was arrested as part of the affair of ties between Qatar and the Prime Minister's Office said during his interrogation that he began working with Yonatan Urich and Israel Einhorn in preparation for the 2022 World Cup. He confirmed in his remarks that the two were asked to create an image campaign for Qatar.
The Shin Bet and the Israeli police believe that two suspects in the so-called Qatargate scandal, both former security officials, were working for Qatari intelligence, as it came to light on Thursday. The two suspects are businessmen who previously held senior positions in Mossad, Channel 12 reported, as the investigation into alleged links between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s staff and Qatari elements continued to expand.
The Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by Attorney Amit Hadad on behalf of Yonatan Urich and adopted the decision of the Central District Court in Lod, so that Urich will remain in custody for five days.
