PV Sindhu Powers Past Hina Akechi, Enters French Open Final
Sindhu reached her second Super 750 final of the year after a 73-minute semifinal, setting up a title match with world No. 1 An Se-young.
On Saturday, two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu booked her place in the French Open final, defeating Japan's Hina Akechi 21-10, 20-22, 21-16 in a 73-minute semifinal. This marks Sindhu's second Super 750 final appearance of 2026.
The 73-minute semifinal forced the Indian to draw on her experience against the 21-year-old Japanese opponent, having previously overcome Supanida Katethong, Riko Gunji, and Chiu Pin-chian in earlier rounds.
Akechi pushed Sindhu with precise forehand smashes, but the Indian regained control in the decider with a cross-court smash. Sindhu said, "I still kept fighting until the end, until the match was over."
Sunday's final pits Sindhu against South Korea's world number one Se-young, who defeated Nozomi Okuhara 21-12, 21-19 to secure her spot in the summit clash.
To claim the French Open crown, the Indian must overcome a daunting challenge: the South Korean has defeated Sindhu in all ten previous meetings, dominating their head-to-head record completely.
