Malaysia Seeks Clarification From Norway After Export Control Halts ...
Malaysia will use diplomatic channels to seek clarification after reports that Norway may block a missile supply for six new navy ships.
On Thursday, Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed Malaysia will engage Norway through diplomatic channels to seek clarification regarding halted deliveries of Naval Strike Missiles intended for the country's Littoral Combat Ships .
Malaysia signed a contract in 2018 with Norwegian firm Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to equip its vessels with NSM guided missiles, though the broader LCS project has faced long-standing mismanagement and delivery delays since 2011.
According to Kongsberg company literature, the 407-kilogram NSM offers "high survivability against all enemy soft and hard kill defence systems" and can destroy targets beyond 300km; a local defence portal reportedly claimed Norway banned the deliveries just days before the scheduled date.
Khaled added that the ministry remains committed to ensuring the country's defense readiness is unaffected while maintaining good bilateral relations with Norway and seeking the best solution in the national interest.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KDA did not respond to requests for comment, leaving the procurement status uncertain as the government evaluates appropriate steps to safeguard national interests.
