CBC News has confirmed that thousands of federal employees have received notice that their jobs could be in jeopardy since the government promised in November's budget to shrink the public service.

Data provided the federal unions to CTV News Ottawa show 5,404 federal workers received notices this week their jobs may be affected by the comprehensive expenditure review,  including 3,300 at Statistics Canada, 1,200 at Shared Services Canada and 736 notices at Public Services and Procurement Canada.
