German refineries produced more petrol and diesel in the first half of the year and imported less fuel. However, because of higher crude oil prices, the savings in imports remained low. Germany paid even more for one type of fuel, despite a smaller import volume.

The production of petrol and diesel in Germany has recently increased. In the first half of 2026, the refineries in Germany produced 11.0 million tonnes of motor gasoline (including aviation gasoline) worth 3.4 billion euros. This was 1.8% more than in the first half of 2025 with 10.8 million tonnes, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
