Prince George-area candidates announced for 2026 provincial election
Elections BC will publish the final candidate list Sunday as parties field incumbents, newcomers and former municipal leaders across Vancouver Island.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, nominations officially closed for the 2026 British Columbia provincial election, with Elections BC releasing the final candidate list today, Sunday, Oct. 4, around 8 a.m.
NDP Leader David Eby called the snap election in September after dissolving the legislature, citing an "existential moment" as President Donald Trump's tariffs pressured British Columbia's economy.
Most Vancouver Island incumbents are seeking re-election, though Saanich South MLA Lana Popham and Saanich North and the Islands MLA Rob Botterell announced they will not seek another term.
Prince George's three incumbent Conservative MLAs will face challenges from further left on the political spectrum, with only one district featuring a four-way contest on October 24.
British Columbians will return to the polls October 24, marking a rapid return to elections just two years after the 2022 provincial election.
