The registration center in Ter Apel is once again hosting more than the permitted number of asylum seekers. On Monday night, 2,048 people were staying there, while the maximum capacity is 2,000. As a result, the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) has been fined €50,000 by the municipality of Westerwolde.
The registration center in Ter Apel is once again over capacity. The number remained below the permitted threshold for a week and a half, thanks to the opening of a large temporary shelter in Biddinghuizen, but it is nearly full and therefore cannot take in many more people.
