[Opinion] Attacks on Journalists in Moldova Have Reached the Highest Level in the Last Eight Years

The year 2025 brought an anti-record for press freedom in the Republic of Moldova. According to the annual report of the Independent Press Association (IPA), last year, 97 attacks on journalists have been reported. This is the highest number recorded since 2017, since such incidents are officially monitored. Moreover, aggressiveness seems to have increased, being recorded with 31 cases of threats more than 2024.
"This is not opinion. It is harassment. Digital violence stop!". Under this slogan, today in Chisinau, was marked International Press Freedom Day, celebrated annually on May 03. The event aimed to draw an alarm signal about the worrying rise of attacks, threats and intimidation from the online environment to press representatives. It was only in 2025 that 97 attacks were recorded on journalists, the highest figure in recent years.
