A French security source told AFP that the Russian disinformation network “Storm-1516” targeted former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, one of the declared candidates for the French presidency, as part of an effort to interfere in France’s presidential election.
A fake news claiming that Édouard Philippe would suffer from "frontotemporal dementia" was quickly described as a Russian interference operation by TF1 Info and a part of the press, a news which is however crude and not visible.
As a target of a disinformation operation led by the pro-Russian network Storm-1516, Édouard Philippe is the first presidential candidate to be targeted by foreign interference.
