President Tinubu to 'pray for Nigeria' during Saudi Arabia trip
The presidency said the trip will include prayers for Nigeria’s peace and progress, while opposition figures question the itinerary and possible side visits.
On Thursday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Abuja for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah and seek Allah's guidance and blessings for Nigeria's peace, unity, and stability.
Media aide Olusegun Dada defended the trip as "a regular practice among Muslims when they want to embark on any critical journey," dismissing speculation that Tinubu sought medical care.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar challenged the Presidency to provide daily, date-stamped proof of Tinubu's presence, questioning whether the trip masked a $20 billion loan-related visit to France.
On Sunday, Tinubu hosted a delegation dinner in Makkah where BUA Group Chairman Abdul-Samad Rabiu and other officials prayed for Nigeria's unity, peace, and economic progress.
As the 2027 vote approaches, political opponents intensify scrutiny of presidential travel and financial decisions, demanding transparency to prevent narratives of undisclosed dealings affecting Nigeria's governance.
