PQ leader readies team for the work ahead as members sworn in at National Assembly
The party says 59 MNAs will take an oath to Quebec as it prepares to challenge the monarch oath in court.
On Thursday, 59 members of the Parti minority government are being sworn in at the Quebec National Assembly, taking an oath of loyalty to the people of Quebec rather than the King.
Winning 59 seats with 28 per cent of the vote on October 5, the Parti secured a minority government, returning to power for the first time since Pauline Marois led a government lasting 18 months in 2012.
Returning to its original purpose after two years of renovations, the Legislative Council Chamber hosts the 2 p.m. ceremony, where legislators are not required to swear an oath to the King under 2022 rule changes.
Members of the Quebec Liberal Party, the Conservative, and Solidaire will be sworn in next week, while Premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon plans to unveil his cabinet on October 21.
The outgoing CAQ party is searching for new leadership following the election, with the executive council set to announce an interim leader next Monday.
