Cryptic Campaign Points to Powderfinger Reunion
Fans are decoding song references and industry links as the campaign raises hopes of a reunion tour or anniversary release.
Cryptic billboards in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney have sparked rumors that iconic band Powderfinger may reunite. Photos posted to an Instagram account titled The Return of the Electric Horsemen suggest the group, which broke up 16 years ago, is planning a return.
The campaign references the band's 1996 album Double Allergic, potentially hinting at a 30th anniversary reissue. Formed in 1989, Powderfinger disbanded in 2010 after a career that included 18 ARIA Awards.
Speculation intensified as Live Nation executives and staff followed the new account. Paul Piticco, the band's longtime manager and director of touring at the entertainment company, oversees the tours.
Some fans speculate the group could appear at the 2026 ARIA Awards next month to celebrate their 40th anniversary. However, a spokeswoman stated she was unaware of any reunion plans.
Powderfinger last performed together at Splendour in the Grass in 2017, though the members virtually reunited for a 2020 pandemic fundraiser. The band has rejected previous approaches to join the ARIA Hall of Fame, yet the mystery campaign continues fueling hope.
