Colorado Resident Could Have Exposed Thousands to Measles at Denver Airport
State health officials said the infected adult may have exposed thousands, and unvaccinated people should watch for symptoms through Oct. 28.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment warned on Thursday that a Jefferson County resident with measles potentially exposed travelers at Denver International Airport and an Arvada urgent care facility earlier this month.
Health officials believe the adult patient, whose vaccination status remains unknown, contracted the virus during travel outside Colorado before visiting DIA three times in early October.
Potential exposures occurred at DIA between October 3 and 5, and at CareNow Urgent Care at 6413 Fig in Arvada on October 7, with the virus remaining airborne for up to two hours.
Anyone potentially exposed should monitor for symptoms for 21 days and avoid public gatherings, officials said, while those developing symptoms must call their provider or the CDPHE at 720-653-3369 before seeking in-person care.
Colorado has reported 26 measles cases this year, with 22 involving unvaccinated individuals, while confirmed infections nationwide have reached 4,410—a figure not seen in 35 years, according to CDC data.
