- On Thursday, Pope Leo XIV travels to Bamenda, Cameroon's English-speaking epicenter of separatist conflict, to preside over a peace meeting at St. Joseph's Cathedral and celebrate open-air Mass.
- Hostilities in Cameroon's two English-speaking regions have killed more than 6,500 people and displaced over 500,000 since 2017, rooted in colonial divisions that marginalized English speakers after independence.
- In a forceful speech on Wednesday, Leo urged President Paul Biya to break the "chains of corruption," calling for human rights protections and warning that "security is a priority, but it must always be exercised with respect for human rights."
- Separatist factions declared a three-day "safe travel passage" before Leo's arrival, with spokesperson Lucas Asu of the Unity Alliance saying the pause "reflects a deliberate commitment to responsibility, restraint and respect for human dignity."
- Following the Bamenda peace meeting, the pontiff will travel Friday to Douala for a stadium Mass expected to draw nearly 600,000 people before departing for Angola on Saturday, April 18.
