Rochas Okorocha Arrested, Released After One-Hour Interrogation
Police said the former Imo governor was questioned for about an hour over a disputed APC senatorial primary document before being released on bail.
On Monday, Nigeria Police Force operatives arrested Senator Rochas Okorocha at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja following a bench warrant. The arrest came after he failed to honor previous police invitations.
Allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation regarding the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary for Imo West prompted the investigation. The Independent National Electoral Commission questioned documents Okorocha allegedly circulated claiming he won the nomination.
Okorocha previously dismissed reports of an arrest warrant and challenged those circulating it to provide documentary evidence. He had missed scheduled appointments at Force Headquarters on September 2 and September 8 at his lawyers' request.
Following an hour of interrogation, the NPF released Okorocha on bail Monday. CSP Aniete Iniedu confirmed he must return to Force Headquarters on Tuesday for continued investigations.
This case centers on conflicting results for the Imo West All Progressives Congress nomination, where INEC recognizes Governor Hope Uzodimma as the legitimate winner. Documents circulating under Okorocha's name claim he won with 150,780 votes, contradicting official results.
