Polasek's Rise Through the Ranks to Mountain West Rookie North Dakota St. Was Launched by Hard Labor
Polasek’s climb from Division III to Wyoming shaped the Bison’s first FBS season, where they open Mountain West play against Air Force.
On Saturday night, the North Dakota State Bison face Air Force in their first Mountain West Conference game as a Football Bowl Subdivision member, marking a significant test following early-season wins over Jacksonville State and Fordham.
After five prominent programs—Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State—departed to restore the Pac-12, the Mountain West restocked with North Dakota State, UTEP, and Northern Illinois as new members.
Head coach Tim Polasek, who is 28-3 with the Bison since 2024, credits his time at Iowa and Wyoming for teaching him to focus on "being brilliant at the basics" in his coaching approach.
Wide receiver Jackson Williams praised Polasek's leadership, saying "He's going to take care of us, but at the same time he's going to push us to our limits," reflecting the team's confidence in his approach.
Athletic director Matt Larsen pursued Mountain West membership as the "right fit," providing the Bison a long-term home and an annual long shot at reaching the College Football Playoff.
