PN Takes RoS, Home Minister to Court over Suspension ...
The coalition can press ahead with its challenge as the suspension stays in force and a stay hearing is set for Oct 22, the court said.
- On October 13, the Kuala Lumpur High Court denied Perikatan Nasional an interim stay against the Registrar of Societies' suspension order, though Justice Azizan granted leave for the judicial review to proceed.
- Authorities issued the suspension on September 23, citing a breach of Clause 7.1 of the coalition's Constitution for failing to invite Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia to its Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
- Perikatan's legal team warned the suspension creates an "immediate impact" on preparations for the upcoming Melaka Election, as the coalition cannot use its official name or logo for the November 14 polls.
- Describing the move as a "malicious agenda," Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan stated the coalition would take immediate legal steps to protect its registration and uphold its political agenda.
- With the interim stay denied, Perikatan must await an inter partes hearing on October 22 to determine if the court will grant relief before the October 31 candidate nomination day.
