PM Modi Arrives in Kyrgyzstan to Attend SCO Summit
Modi will meet Kyrgyz and other SCO leaders as India seeks stronger regional ties and a shared push against terrorism, separatism and extremism.
- On Sunday, August 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and hold bilateral meetings.
- Founded in 2001, the 10-member SCO marks 25 years at the summit scheduled for August 31–September 1, involving China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
- Participating in the summit, Chinese President Jinping arrived in the country on Sunday and is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various SCO leaders.
- National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang held the 25th meeting of the Special Representatives mechanism in Beijing on Tuesday, reaching an eight-point consensus on the 3,488 km boundary dispute.
- Jinping is widely expected to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12–13 before traveling to the U.S. for a meeting with President Donald Trump.
