Dec 26: Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, 72, died at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Friday after suffering a massive cerebral stroke.
On August 8, Sen suffered a brain haemorrhage at Agartala railway station, and after emergency surgery in Agartala, he was moved to Bengaluru on August 11 for further treatment arranged by his son Arijit Sen and AIIMS doctors.
A veteran lawmaker, Sen was a four-time MLA representing Dharmanagar assembly constituency, North Tripura, and is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.
The Tripura government declared three days of state mourning from Friday, closing all government offices, PSUs and educational institutions on Friday and scheduling a state funeral on Saturday, December 27.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha condoled the death of Biswa Bandhu Sen, calling it an irreparable loss to the party, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted 'Om Shanti' on X recalling Sen's efforts to boost Tripura's progress.
