Poilievre Urges Albertans Not to 'Quit' on Canada Ahead of Separation Vote
Poilievre and Carney are making last-ditch appeals as Albertans face 10 referendum questions, including one on the province’s sovereignty.
Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Prime Minister Mark Carney are in the province making last-ditch appeals to Albertans to vote to stay in Canada as voters head to the polls Monday.
Albertans will vote on a series of 10 referendum questions, with one specifically addressing whether the province should remain in Canada or hold a second, binding referendum on leaving Confederation.
In a Calgary speech, Poilievre argued that while he understands separatist disillusionment, quitting is not the answer; Albertans are not quitters and must restore the country's greatness through federalism.
Although Poilievre has maintained a lower profile than other federal figures, political scientist Duane Bratt of Mount Royal University noted the potential significance of his intervention in swaying undecided voters.
Coverage of these final appeals is available on The Big Story podcast, hosted by Host Caryn Ceolin on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, which explores whether federal voices can sway decided voters.
