PIA’s First Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Arrives in Pakistan
The leased jet is the first Boeing 787-9 in PIA’s fleet and is meant to improve long-haul service and UK connectivity, the airline said.
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, Pakistan International Airlines first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner arrived at Islamabad International Airport from London via flight PK-786, marking a significant milestone in the carrier's revival efforts.
PIA acquired the wide-body aircraft through an Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance agreement with Norway-based Norse Atlantic Airways, signed in October to increase long-haul capacity.
The Arif Habib Consortium, which took over PIA management in June with a Rs180 billion investment commitment, views this induction as essential to its fleet renewal strategy and revival goals.
PIA Chief Executive Officer Air Vice Marshal Amir Hayat welcomed the Dreamliner upon arrival, emphasizing the airline's commitment to offering modern, comfortable travel experiences for overseas Pakistanis.
This capacity supports PIA's expansion on United Kingdom routes, where the airline resumed direct flights to London in March after a six-year gap, with management prioritizing route growth as a key investment area.
