Person Taken to Hospital After 'Fall From Height' Closes Vital Motorway Slip Road
Emergency services and traffic officers are managing diversions as police say the motorway will stay shut for hours while investigators work.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, a man in his 50s died after being struck by a lorry and several vehicles on the M2 in Kent near Medway Services. The motorway remains closed in both directions between Junction 3 and Junction 5.
The crash occurred at approximately 9.10pm on Tuesday, prompting an extended closure for accident investigation work. Kent Police and National Highways traffic officers remain on scene, with the route expected to stay closed throughout Wednesday.
Coastbound traffic is halted between Junction 3 and 5, while London-bound traffic is stopped between Junction 5 and 4. Significant congestion has built up in both directions, with delays stretching back three miles London-bound and two miles coastbound.
Motorists are advised to follow posted diversions, including the Solid Circle symbol for eastbound travel via the A229 and M20. Drivers traveling westbound should follow the Solid Square diversion symbol on road signs to avoid the affected area.
While investigation work continues, drivers are urged to seek alternative routes and allow extra journey time. Kent Police have asked any witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to contact their appeal line.
