Jayden Maiava Leads No. 19 USC Past Penn State 31-23
Jayden Maiava threw three touchdowns as the Trojans improved to 6-1 and Penn State fell to 3-3.
In front of a record 114,419 fans at Beaver Stadium, the USC Trojans defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions 31-23 on Saturday night, securing bowl eligibility with a 6-1 record.
USC quarterback Jayden Maiava orchestrated the victory, completing 21 of 33 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns while the Trojans offense averaged nearly eight yards per play through three quarters.
For the Nittany Lions, quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 289 yards and a touchdown, but USC freshman receiver Trent Mosley dominated with nine receptions for 111 yards and a score.
Receiver Brett Eskildsen's fumble with 3:59 remaining effectively ended Penn State's comeback bid, leaving Penn State coach Matt Campbell's squad winless in Big Ten play at 3-3.
Following a bye week, Penn State travels to face the Michigan Wolverines, while USC visits Wisconsin on Oct. 24 seeking to extend its winning streak.
