Parents Charged over Death of Their One-Year-Old Son
Police charged Adam Johnson and Kylie Smith with causing or allowing the death of a child after a postmortem found severe malnutrition.
Adam Johnson, 26, and Kylie Smith, 25, of St Helens have been charged following the death of their one-year-old son, Maero Johnson, three years ago.
Shortly after midnight on August 23, 2023, Merseyside Police received reports that Maero had been taken to hospital, where he died despite medical staff's best efforts.
Police charged the pair with causing or allowing the death of a child, child neglect, and possession of a controlled Class B drug, cannabis.
A Home Office postmortem confirmed Maero died of ketonic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition; a second child was found neglected and underdeveloped.
They will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 13, to face the charges as legal proceedings regarding the child's death begin.
