Palestinian militants hand over body of another Gaza hostage

Lior Rudaeff's body was identified after being returned from Gaza under a US-brokered ceasefire, part of a deal exchanging remains and prisoners between Israel and Hamas.

  • On Saturday, the Israeli military confirmed the body handed over from Gaza as Lior Rudaeff, a 61-year-old Israeli-Argentinian, following identification at the forensic facility in Tel Aviv.
  • The ceasefire that began Oct. 10 under the U.S.-brokered ceasefire includes hostage-prisoner exchange terms with Hamas and Palestinian militant groups to wind down the two-year war.
  • The remains were located in Khan Younis, Islamic Jihad said, and Lior Rudaeff, 61-year-old Israeli-Argentinian, was killed defending Nir Yitzhak kibbutz in the Oct. 7, 2023 attack.
  • Israel now says only five remain, and the prime minister's office of Benjamin Netanyahu demanded Hamas `uphold its commitments` while families of hostages and the Hostages and Missing Families Forum pledged `We will not rest until the last hostage is brought home.`
  • Under the truce's exchange math, the ceasefire calls for about 15 Palestinian bodies returned per Israeli hostage amid Gaza's Health Ministry reporting nearly 69,000 dead and DNA testing restrictions.
